Welcome to Know the Word. These terms are the agreement between you and Buzen Technologies for using our app. We’ve kept them as plain and fair as we can.
Please read these Terms of Use (“Terms”) carefully. They govern your use of the Know the Word mobile application (the “App”). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Acceptance of terms
By using the App, you confirm that you are able to form a binding agreement and that you accept these Terms together with our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you are using the App on behalf of someone else, you represent that you have authority to accept these Terms for them.
Your license to use
Subject to these Terms, Buzen Technologies grants you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use the App for your own non-commercial study and devotional purposes on devices you own or control.
This is a license to use the App - it does not transfer ownership. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by us and our licensors.
Supporter & subscriptions
The core of Know the Word is free. You may optionally unlock premium features by becoming a Supporter through an in-app purchase:
All purchases are processed and managed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. Current prices are shown in the App before you confirm, and may vary by region and over time.
Auto-renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew at the then-current price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the period. You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Refunds
Because billing is handled by the app stores, refund requests are subject to the policies of Apple or Google. We are generally unable to issue refunds directly for store purchases.
Scripture & content
Know the Word includes Bible passages, study material, quizzes, story content, and related learning tools. Public-domain translations (such as the World English Bible and the King James Version) are provided within the App. Certain copyrighted translations may instead be offered through an “Open in” link to an external app or website operated by the rights holder.
The educational and devotional content in the App is provided for personal study and reflection. While we strive for accuracy, the App is a learning aid and is not a substitute for professional, pastoral, legal, medical, or other expert advice, nor does it claim ecclesiastical authority.
Acceptable use
To keep the App safe and lawful for everyone, you agree that you will not:
- Copy, redistribute, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the App or its content beyond what these Terms allow
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, except where such restriction is prohibited by law
- Circumvent, disable, or tamper with Supporter entitlements, security, or other features of the App
- Use the App in any unlawful manner or in violation of any applicable regulation or third-party right
- Use automated means to access the App in a way that disrupts its normal operation
Intellectual property
The App - including its design, software, name, logo, original text, illustrations, audio, and other materials (excluding third-party Scripture translations and assets owned by their respective rights holders) - is owned by Buzen Technologies and protected by intellectual-property laws. The Know the Word name and logo are marks of Buzen Technologies. Bundled typefaces are used under the SIL Open Font License. You may not use our branding without our prior written permission.
App stores
Your download and use of the App is also subject to the terms of the store you obtained it from (the Apple App Store or Google Play). Where the App is obtained through the Apple App Store, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Buzen Technologies only - not Apple - and that Apple is not responsible for the App or its support. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them. Similar provisions apply to Google for the App obtained through Google Play.
Disclaimers
The App is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any content is complete or free of mistakes. You use the App at your own discretion and risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Buzen Technologies and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the App. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for any claim relating to the App will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the App in the twelve months before the claim, or USD $25. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your access to the App or its features if you materially breach these Terms or use the App unlawfully. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination - including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitations of liability - will continue to apply.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at the principal place of business of Buzen Technologies, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence provide otherwise. You may have additional rights under your local law that these Terms do not diminish.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as the App develops or as legal requirements change. When we do, we’ll update the effective date above, and significant changes may also be noted in the App. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
